Paul Arthur Shields, 82, Palestine, died April 26, 2020, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson.
He was born Sept. 25, 1937, in Hutsonville, the son of Arthur and Pearl (Wiseman) Shields, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Paul in 1961; brothers-in-law, David Koch (Valparaiso, Ind.), Hap McIntyre (Chesterton, Ind.); sisters-in-law Jackie Holdren (Missouri), Andrea Lee (Valparaiso, Ind.), Carole Pangburn (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Janice Coslet (Knox, Ind.).
He married Janet Koch Oct. 26, 1957, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Cindi Parker (Palestine), Bonnie and Jerry Sanders (Oblong), Scott Shields (Westville) and Paul D. and Dottie Shields (Robinson); a sister, Rosemary Brock (Palestine); sisters-in-law, Nancy Koch, (Valparaiso, Ind.), Pam and Ron Horlacher (Wisconsin), Linda and Wayne Utterback (Valparaiso, Ind.), Sue and Jeff Campbell (Westville Ind.); six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with a third on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was a 1955 graduate of Robinson High School. He went on to work for Ettelbrick Shoe Factory in Robinson, Gary Steelworks in Gary, Ind., Indiana General in Valparaiso, Ind., and Victor Dana in Robinson. He was general foreman for Sheehan at Marathon in Robinson and was also the owner/operator of Blue Thumb Woodworks in Palestine.
A private family graveside will be held at the Robinson New Cemetery The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to “Janet Shields” to assist with the cost of a monument.
