Mary Jane Dart, 77, Oblong, IL, passed away Thursday July 30, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN.
Jane was born on May 29, 1943, in Robinson, IL and was the daughter of Elzie Otis and Martha Virginia (Roberts) Hayes. She married H. Eugene “Gene” Dart on May 4, 1962.
She worked for the U.S.D.A. for several years and was then an operator at Leaf Candy Company and Hershey Candy Company retiring in 2008.
Jane was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of the Robinson High School Class of 1961, Oblong First Christian Church and Oblong Young Homemakers.
Jane enjoyed painting pictures of landscapes and especially old barns. She did some large murals in businesses in the area. She was a great farm wife and did a great job of running for parts and cooking for the farm workers. Jane and Gene loved country dancing and listening to “oldies” music.
Jane is survived by her husband Gene Dart, Oblong, IL; a son, Doug Dart, Oblong, IL; two daughters, Denise and Eddie Huddleston, Oblong, IL, and Nicki Dart and Steve Woods of Battle Ground, IN; grandchildren Kasey Redman, Cody Dart, Allison Dart, Chelsea Hoalt, Curtis Hoalt, Travis Huddleston, Levi Huddleston and Josh Redman; four great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth ”Jo” and James Summersill of Flat Rock, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first biological great-granddaughter in October 2020.
Preceding Jane in death were her parents and three sisters, Anne Lewis, Rose Snider and Callie Dunlap.
A celebration of Jane’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 4, 2020, at the Oblong First Christian Church, 206 North Range St Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery, Jasper County, IL. Visitation will be held Monday August 3, 2020 at the church from 5 to 7 p.m.
The family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to Oblong Christian Children’s Home or Crawford County Humane Society. Envelopes will be at the church or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.
Under the guidelines of the CDC and the State of Illinois for COVID-19, social distancing will be encouraged as well the use of face coverings.
