Lady Maroons edge Lady Pioneers, 33-31
One team was looking to rebound from a rough start to the season, while the other was looking to start their season on a positive note when county foes Robinson and Palestine-Hutsonville took to the court in girls' basketball action Tuesday (Nov. 19).

Both of those things actually occurred, as the Lady Maroons bounced back from a season-opening loss, while the Lady Pioneers put forth a strong effort in a game that Robinson ultimately won, 33-31.

"It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "Playing two games in two days to start the season has been rough on us, but the girls found a way to get it done."

"I really wasn't sure what to expect coming in, but I was happy with our effort," PHS-HHS head coach Travis Blank said. "The kids kept fighting and finding ways to stay in it, we just came up a little short."

Lady Panthers fall short to Casey-Westfield in 47-36 loss
Another solid effort wound up finishing just short for Oblong High School's girls' basketball team Tuesday night (Nov. 19).

The Lady Panthers were competitive for the second night in a row, but they still don't have any wins to show for it on the young season. Oblong dropped its second game in as many nights to start the season after falling short to Casey-Westfield, 47-36.

Lady Panthers fall short to Red Hill, 51-43
Although the end result wasn't what they had hoped for, the start the season was a solid one for Oblong High School's girls' basketball team.

The Lady Panthers battled tooth and nail all night, but ultimately came out on the short end to Red Hill, 51-43, in their season opener Monday night (Nov. 18).

"The kids played hard and competed, but it was an uphill battle all night," OHS head coach Kaydie Grooms said. "We battled, but just couldn't quite get over that hump."

The season did not get off to the start Robinson High School's girls' basketball team had hoped for Monday night (Nov. 18).

The Lady Maroons struggled in their first game of the season, dropping a 50-30 decision at Dieterich in a non-conference contest.

Lady Statesmen beat St. Francis JV, 75-60
Coming into Saturday (Nov. 16)'s game, Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team knew it would not have an easy time with their opponent and they didn't.

Still, the Lady Statesmen were able to find a way to win, as they pulled away late for a 75-60 victory over St. Francis (Ind.) JV.

"They are a good team and we knew that coming in," LTC head coach Scott Sparks said. "This was a good game and a good test for us."

Lady Statesmen fall at district tourney
The trip to the postseason was short one for Lincoln Trail College's volleyball team.

Needing to win two matches to earn a berth in the national tournament, the Lady Statesmen were not able to even win a set, as they lost their first round match to LincolnLand College in three sets, 18-25, 21-25, 17-25 at the NJCAA Division II Central District B Tournament Saturday (Nov. 9) in East Peoria.

"We put up a good fight and played hard, but overall, we weren't consistent," LTC head coach Dana Goodwin said. "In each set, we got ourselves in a hole that we couldn't come out of it until it was too late."

Lady Statesmen roll past Clark State, 83-33
Being bigger, stronger and faster played huge roles in Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team having a successful home opener Friday night (Nov. 8).

The Lady Statesmen broke open a close game early and rolled to an 83-33 win over Clark State in their first home game of the season.

"This was a good team win," LTC head coach Scott Sparks said. "We had a little nerves early with it being the first home game, but then we let our athleticism and our depth take over. We settled in and had a much better second quarter and second half."

Statesmen win pair at OCC Classic
Stronger competition forced Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team to work a little harder over the weekend, but it did not prevent the Statesmen from staying unbeaten on the young season.

The Statesmen were able to break open a pair of close games late and scored two double-digit wins at the Olney Central College Classic. Lincoln Trail pulled away for an 84-71 win over Illinois Valley Friday (Nov. 8), then followed up an 85-65 win over Clark State on Saturday (Nov. 9).

RHS XC boys finish 13th at state meet
Not being at full strength is not where you want to be when you make it to the state finals, but that was the situation Robinson High School's boys' cross country team found themselves in Saturday (Nov. 9).

The Maroons were at less than 100 percent at the IHSA Class 1A State Finals in Peoria, but still put together a solid effort to finish 13th out of 25 full teams in the meet.

"Overall, I was pleased with our team performance," RHS head coach Tony Cork said. "We finished well ahead of St. Joe-Ogden and Tolono Unity, who had both finished ahead of us at the sectional meet."
