Regional Champion
Robinson's Jeff Hermann ties up Tolono Unity's Nick Nosler during their semifinal match at the IHSA Class 1A Robinson Regional. Hermann went on to win the title at 145 pounds and his win in the championship match gave him 130 victories for his career, setting the new school record. He also finished second at the Vandalia Sectional to qualify for the state tournament.


Maroons knock off Marshall, 70-58

Senior Night is a night for celebration and Robinson High School's boys' basketball team celebrated its seniors with their biggest win of the season Tuesday night.

The Maroons saved their best for last, posting a 70-58 win over state-ranked Marshall in a Little Illini Conference contest in their final home game of the season.

"This was a great, great win for us," RHS head coach Mack Thompson said. "For the boys to celebrate Senior Night by beating the No. 1 Regional seed and a state-ranked team, I couldn't be happier for them."

Lincoln Trail baseball team wins one of three over the weekend
Lincoln Trail College's baseball team was finally able to get in the win column on the young season, but not before they dropped two more games.

After losing all three of their games (one was an exhibition) on their opening weekend in Georgia, the Statesmen returned to Georgia this past weekend for a three-game series with Georgia Highlands College and went 1-2, salvaging the third game to avoid a sweep.

LTC drops pair at Olney Central
Going on the road in conference play is never easy and Lincoln Trail College's basketball teams found that out again Wednesday night, as both the men's and women's teams dropped road contests at Olney Central College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

Tigers lose to Clay City, Ind., 93-49
A solid start was not enough for Hutsonville-Palestine's boys' basketball team to get back in the win column Tuesday.

The Tigers led after one quarter of their non-conference game against Clay City, Ind., but gave up 82 points over the final three periods en route to a 93-49 loss.

Panthers can't keep pace with South Central in 74-49 loss
Another slow start put Oblong High School's boys' basketball team in a hole they could not climb out of Tuesday and the end result was another lopsided loss.

The Panthers fell behind early and never recovered in a 74-49 loss to Farina South Central on Senior Night at OHS.

Hermann finishes 2nd, advances to state
All four Robinson High School wrestlers that competed at the IHSA Class 1 Vandalia Sectional won at least one match over the weekend, but when the dust settled, only one was left standing.

RHS senior Jeff Hermann is the last man standing for the Maroons, as he advanced to this weekend's state finals by finishing second in the 145-pound division at Vandalia.

Lady Statesmen beat SWIC, 62-45
Four solid quarters of basketball led Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team to a road victory Saturday.

The Lady Statesmen outscored Southwestern Illinois College in all four periods en route to a 62-45 win in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

Tigers lose to WSS at Altamont, 71-44
One disastrous quarter prevented Hutsonville-Palestine's boys' basketball team from having a chance to rally from an early deficit Saturday.

The Tigers fell behind early, then bounced back before a four-point third quarter helped send them to a 71-44 loss to Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg at the Altamont Shootout.

Statesmen stumble in 82-66 loss at Southwestern Illinois in GRAC play
A poor first half put Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team in a deficit they could not recovered from in a disappointing road loss Saturday.

The Statesmen struggled on both ends of the floor in the first half and trailed by 20 at halftime on their way to an 82-66 loss at Southwestern Illinois College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

Panthers fall to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, 71-43
A chance to start a winning streak never materialized for Oblong High School's boys' basketball team Friday night.

Coming off their first win of the season (43-42 over Martinsville Tuesday), the Panthers were looking to make it two in a row, but a slow start put OHS in a hole they could not climb out of in a 71-43 loss to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond.

Maroons split another set of weekend games
On a night where the senior-led state championship team was recognized for the 10th anniversary of their tournament run, seniors led the way for Robinson High School's boys' basketball team Friday night.

The Maroons' four seniors combined for 54 points to easily outscore visiting Red Hill, as the Maroons rolled to a 75-38 win in the Little Illini Conference contest.

"With this whole atmosphere from the honoring of the state championship to the pink out benefit for Nikki Kelly, our guys were extra juiced up tonight," RHS head coach Mack Thompson said. "The kids came out with some energy and we rolled from there."
