Tough competition resulted in just shy of a handful of Robinson High School wrestlers continuing their seasons over the weekend.

Robinson was host for the IHSA Class 1A Regional Friday and Saturday and the Maroons managed to get four wrestlers to qualify for this weekend's Vandalia Sectional, while finishing fifth in the team standings.

Maroons fall short to Vincennes Lincoln, 55-50
In what has started to play like a broken record, Robinson High School's boys' basketball team came out on the short end of another close decision.

For the second straight night, the Maroons took on an opponent from Indiana and suffered another close loss.

After dropping a six-point decision at Terre Haute North Tuesday, Robinson played host to a solid Vincennes Lincoln squad and battled until the end, only to suffer a 55-50 loss.

"It seems like we have this same conversation every night," RHS head coach Mack Thompson said. "I feel so bad because the kids fight so hard and I can't figure out how to get them over the hump."

It has been a long time coming, but Oblong High School's boys' basketball team was finally able to get into the win column Tuesday night, although they didn't make it easy on themselves.

The Panthers scored their first win of the season by holding on late for a 43-42 victory at Martinsville in a Little Okaw Valley Conference contest.

Maroons fall short in 56-50 loss at Terre Haute North
Close games in the gym at Terre Haute North High School continued to be the norm for Robinson High School's boys' basketball team and unfortunately for the Maroons, they were once again unable to find a way to get a win.

After losing three games by a combined 11 points in the Wabash Valley Classic at Terre Haute North just after Christmas, the Maroons battled with the host team for four quarters Tuesday night, but came up just short in a 56-50 loss in the non-conference contest.

Lady Maroons fall to Mt. Carmel, 72-42
For one half, Robinson High School's girls' basketball team played about as well as they had all season.

Unfortunately for the Lady Maroons, they were not able to keep that up through all four quarters.

Robinson stayed within striking distance of Mt. Carmel into the early stages of the third quarter, but a lengthy scoring drought put the Lady Maroons in a hole they would not recover from in a 72-42 loss in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A Newton Regional.

"We gave it our all and I am proud of the girls' effort," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "But, we just ran out of gas in the second half."
