Statesmen fall at Wabash in OT, 90-86
Going on the road in Region 24 play is never easy and it certainly wasn't for Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team Wednesday night (Jan. 8).

The Statesmen struggled early in their first game of 2020, digging themselves a big hole before climbing out of it, only to fall short in overtime at Wabash Valley College, 90-86, in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference contest.

"We put ourselves in position to win late, but we just couldn't finish," LTC head coach Luke Stuckey said.

Maroons fall short to St. Anthony, 53-42
Putting four complete quarters together continues to prevent Robinson High School's boys' basketball team from picking up wins.

The Maroons hung right with a highly-regarded Effingham St. Anthony throughout Tuesday (Jan. 7)'s non-conference contest, but two lengthy dry spells proved too much to overcome in a 53-42 loss.

Lady Maroons drop non-conference game at Sullivan, Ind., 67-44
A strong second half could not overcome a poor first half for Robinson High School's girls' basketball team Tuesday night (Jan. 7), as they dropped a 67-44 decision at Sullivan, Ind.

The Lady Maroons had a poor start, digging themselves a 22-7 hole after one quarter, then getting outscored 18-10 in the second quarter for a 40-17 halftime deficit. Robinson played even with Sullivan in the second half, as they won the third quarter 12-11 before losing the fourth quarter 16-15 to reach the final totals.

"We decided to start playing in the second half," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "We tied in the second half and they were still pressing and playing their starters like they did in the first half. We just let them get to us in the beginning and dug to big a hole."

The Panthers were blitzed from the start and never got untracked on their way to a 60-37 loss to St. Elmo-Brownstown.

Nevertheless, the Lady Maroons were able to score a win to open the 2020 portion of their schedule (Jan. 6), holding on for a 52-49 victory over Edwards County in a non-conference contest.

"The girls persevered through some adversity and illness and we got a win, which we are excited about," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "The girls hit some big threes and made some plays in the clutch and we got stops when we needed them."

The Maroons performed very well offensively Friday night (Jan. 3) and picked up a 77-61 win over Wayne City, then struggled to put the ball in the basket in a 56-46 loss to Evansville Harrison Saturday night (Jan. 4).
