One county junior high volleyball team was going to see their season come to an end at the hands of their county rival Saturday, while the other saw its season come to an end later in the day.
Rivals Oblong and Hutsonville-Palestine met in the first round of the IESA Class 2A 8th Grade Regional in Albion, with Oblong taking the win in two sets, 25-19, 25-20.
Alaina Holcomb led OES with 11 points, including two aces and one kill, while Jayden Lewis netted five points. Kyndal Roy posted four points with one ace, Mylah Stephenson contributed three points with two aces and one kill, Camryn Christine recorded two points with two aces, Mallorie Dart collected two points with one ace, Ginna Russell totaled one point, three kills and two blocks, Lily Holcomb registered one point, Olivia Gonzalez added two kills and Macy Thompson had one kill.
Morgan Knoblett led HGS-PGS with 10 good serves, including five aces and 11 spikes with three kills, while Brenna Higginbotham posted five good serves with one ace, eight spikes with three kills and two tips. Camri Pruitt registered five good serves and 22 good sets with two tips, Ayla Cook totaled five good serves with three aces, three good sets and one spike with one kill, Ilayna Sheets contributed three good serves with one ace and three good sets, Ahlya Abel collected four good serves and one spike with one kill, Kiara Fralicker netted three good serves and Zoey Beabout recorded seven spikes with one kill.
As a result of their win, Oblong moved onto the semifinal match against Albion, where they dropped a 12-25, 16-25 decision.
Alaina Holcomb led OES with three points, including one ace and one kill, while Christine posted three points with one ace. Roy netted three points and one kill, Stephenson contributed three points, Lewis netted two points, Russell and Thompson recorded one kill apiece and Lily Holcomb added one dig.
Meanwhile, Nuttall Middle School's volleyball team advanced to the championship match of the IESA Class 3A Casey-Westfield 8th Grade Regional with a 25-14, 25-21 win over Lawrenceville in Wednesday's semifinal.
Halle Gower led top-seeded NMS (19-3) with 15 points, including one ace, three assists and two digs, while Marisa Zane posted six points, six digs and one assist. Elizabeth Shea totaled three points, four kills, two blocks and two digs, Callie Dickerson contributed three points with one ace and two kills, Sydney Harmon recorded two points with two aces, Raegan Manhart netted one point, Alexia Zane collected four assists, three kills, two digs and one block, Katelyn Jones added one kill and Kendall Kamp had one assist.
In Wednesday's other semifinal, third-seeded Jasper County knocked off second-seeded Casey-Westfield 25-18, 25-21.
Robinson and Jasper County met in the championship match Thursday night.
