Lady Pioneers, Lady Panthers lose
Class 1A Louisville-North Clay Regional

Two Crawford County girls' basketball teams traveled west to start the postseason and both saw their seasons come to an end Monday, as Palestine-Hutsonville and Oblong lost their opening round games at the IHSA Class 1A Louisville-North Clay Regional.

In the first game, the Lady Pioneers came out on the short end of a 56-44 decision to Farina South Central.

Palestine-Hutsonville held a 14-13 edge after one quarter, but was outscored 14-8 in the second period for a 27-22 halftime deficit. The Lady Pioneers still trailed 38-33 after three quarters, but South Central outscored the Lady Pioneers 18-11 in the final period to dash any hopes of a comeback by the Lady Pioneers.

Katie Draper led Palestine-Hutsonville with 22 points, 20 rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Shara Coffman posted 13 points, six rebounds and two steals. Halle Piper collected four points, 12 rebounds and one assist, Kaylee Pettigrew contributed three points, eight rebounds and one assist and Stephanie Rudd netted two points and seven rebounds.

Laney Webster led South Central with 26 points, seven rebounds and one steal, while Halle Smith posted 11 points, five rebounds and one steal.

Palestine-Hutsonville ended its season with a 7-11 record.

In game two, Oblong was defeated by host Louisville-North Clay, 56-35.

The Lady Panthers dug themselves a 17-4 hole by the end of the first period and never recovered. Oblong trailed 27-13 at halftime, then saw the margin grow to 44-21 after three quarters before Oblong won the fourth quarter 14-12 to reach the final totals.

Katie Cheek led OHS with 13 points, 13 rebounds, six blocked shots and four steals, while Madisyn McIntosh posted nine points and five rebounds. Hannah Meese contributed seven points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist, Carmen Worcester collected three points, one rebound and one assist and Genell Russell netted three points, one steal and one assist.

Madison Lovett led Louisville-North Clay with 19 points, while also reaching double figures were Chloe Lewis with 14 and Kristin Allen with 10.
