Sailing was much smoother the second time around for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team.
Following a slow start in a win in their season opener Sunday, the Lady Statesmen had little trouble in Tuesday night (Nov. 5)'s game, as they rolled to a 71-31 win at MacMurray College JV.
The Lady Statesmen left little doubt Tuesday, as they jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Lincoln Trail then outscored MacMurray 18-5 in the second quarter for a 40-12 halftime advantage, then outscored MacMurray 24-8 in the third quarter to make the score 64-20 heading into the final period. MacMurray won the fourth quarter 11-7, but it was too little, too late.
Balanced scoring led the way for LTC, as 12 of the 13 players for the Lady Statesmen found the scoring column. Alaysia Douglas and Kira Robinson shared scoring honors with 10 points apiece, while Paiton Mangrum, Alexis True and Jaylynn Brown each scored eight. Hannah Boykin tossed in seven, Amber Hixon netted six, Tori Combs contributed four, SyAnn Holmes and Nieisha Petit-Frere added three points apiece and Kelsey Mitchell and Madison Beck each had two.
Allie Taberski was the leading scorer for MacMurray with nine points, while Maddie Ashcraft scored eight.
