Another night of volleyball, another round of drama for Hutsonville-Palestine's volleyball team.

The Lady Tigers went all the way to the brink yet again, but came out on top for the second straight night at the IHSA Class 1A Cassey-Westfield Regional.

Following a three-set win over Effingham St. Anthony to avoid a first-round upset, Hutsonville-Palestine again needed three sets to hold off a pesky Casey-Westfield team that was looking for its second consecutive upset. The Lady Warriors were coming off an upset over fellow Crawford County school Oblong, but Hutsonville-Palestine was able to prevent a repeat, as they rallied to win in three sets, 23-25, 25-17, 28-26 (Oct. 30).

"Tonight was another good game," HHS-PHS head coach Shandy Matthews said. "I am so proud of the girls and how they didn't give up. There were some bad momentum changes, but they didn't let it get to them. They kept playing one point at a time and stuck with it to earn the win. They showed how resilient they are tonight."

Ashlyn Matthews led Hutsonville-Palestine with 16 points on 19 good serves with one ace, 29 spikes with six kills and 14 digs, while Marah Matthews totaled 11 points on 15 good serves with two aces, 76 good sets, 30 digs and three blocks with one stuff. Paige Matthews contributed eight points on 13 good serves, 23 good sets, 19 digs, six spikes with two kills and three blocks, Katie Draper posted five points on 11 good serves, 12 spikes with five kills, 13 digs and eight blocks with two stuffs, Isabel Sheets collected three points on nine good serves with one ace, 15 spikes with five kills and 15 digs and Grayce Hightshoe netted 18 spikes with two kills, six digs and four blocks with one stuff.

In Wednesday's first semifinal, second-seeded Cumberland defeated seventh-seeded Martinsville in two sets, 25-21, 25-10.

Hutsonville-Palestine (15-4) will play Cumberland in the championship match of the IHSA Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional tonight at 6.
