Finishing the regular season strong was what Hutsonville-Palestine's volleyball team wanted to do Thursday (Oct. 24) and they did just that.

The Lady Tigers celebrated Senior Night in Hutsonville by rolling to a 25-6, 25-9 win over Dieterich in a non-conference contest.

"No one wants to lose, especially on senior night," HHS-PHS head coach Shandy Matthews said. "The varsity came ready to play. Everything just came together tonight and the girls played like a team. It was nice to sit and enjoy watching them play. We only missed one serve and had one dropped ball. I'm so proud of this group of girls. They have a winning season and done well. Now it's time to get ready for regionals."

Paige Matthews led the Lady Tigers with nine points on 10 good serves with one ace, eight good sets, eight digs and three spikes with one kill, while Katie Draper posted nine points on 10 good serves, five spikes, one block and one dig. Isabel Sheets totaled eight points on 10 good serves, 11 digs and six spikes with two kills, Marah Matthews collected six points on nine good serves, 28 good sets and 16 digs and Ashlyn Matthews contributed four points on five good serves, 13 spikes with nine kills and three digs.

Hutsonville-Palestine also won the junior varsity match in two sets, 25-18, 25-21.

Gwen Lathtrop led Hutsonville-Palestine with nine points on 11 good serves with three aces, 13 digs and five spikes with two kills, while McKenna Love totaled seven points on nine good serves, 65 good sets, 22 digs and three spikes and Reese Williamson contributed seven points on eight good serves with two aces, 15 digs and eight spikes.

"It was a good night," Matthews said. "The JV and varsity both played well and won. I am so proud of these girls and the work they have put in during the season. JV finally played like I knew they could. They have all worked hard and improved and it showed tonight when they played. It was a great way to end their season."
