Solid performances all around resulted in strong finishes for Robinson High School's cross country teams in a deep and talented field at their annual Robinson Invitational Thursday (Oct. 3).

Robinson placed three runners in the top 20 and finished third in the boys' race, while the girls ran well and came in seventh in their race.

"The boys and girls both ran really well," RHS head coach Tony Cork said. "More than two-thirds of them had their season or career-best times, while the others were really close."

In the boys' meet, Robinson finished with 98 points, placing them behind only Olney, who won with 65 and Glen Carbon Father McGivney, who finished second with 78. Mattoon (109) and Effingham St. Anthony (147) rounded out the top-five, while Tolono Unity (169), Marshall (181), Cumberland (216), Newton (247), Effingham (254), Teutopolis (309), Mt. Carmel (356), Fairfield (375), Paris (403), Neoga (413), Altamont (418), Cowden-Herrick-Beecher City (422), Dieterich (515), Charleston (518) and Hutsonville-Palestine (577) completed the field of 20 full teams. There were also a handful of schools who had runners in the field, but not enough to post a team score.

Robinson was led by Negus Bogard, who won the race with a time of 15:04, breaking the course and Robinson Invitational record in the process.

The previous record was 15:07 held by Keith Jared since 1992.

Koty Amdahl and Maverick Wright finished 15th and 16th out of 141 runners in the field with times of 16:44 and 16:48, respectively, while also scoring for RHS were Parker Middleton in 30th (17:19) and Cameron Shew in 47th (17:55), while Carter Shew came in 73rd (18:47).

Hutsonville-Palestine had five runners compete to post a team score, but none finished among the top 120. Colton Hayes led the Tigers with a 123rd-place finish in 21:01, while Travis Rinard was 125th (21:02), Jacob Pickering was 128th (21:18), Blaine Beabout was 131st (21:33) and Blake Knoblett was 133rd (21:34).

In the girls' meet, Robinson finished right in the middle of the pack, as they were seventh out of 15 full teams with a score of 209.

Tolono Unity (32), Marshall (104), Olney (106), Charleston (119), Newton (180) and Effingham (203) finished ahead of the Lady Maroons, while rounding out the field were Teutopolis (211), Mattoon (229), Casey-Westfield (230), Cumberland (254), Paris (285), Neoga (312), Effingham St. Anthony (318) and Glen Carbon Father McGivney (371). There were also several other schools who competed, but didn't have enough runners for a team score.

Top finisher for RHS was Leighanna Hamilton in 29th out of 112 runners with a time of 21:12, while Macy Sutfin was 33rd in 21:26 and Madi Staley was 34th in 21:27. Also scoring for the Lady Maroons were Stevee Walker in 64th (22:58) and Julia Gallion in 70th (23:29).
