For the fourth time in the past five seasons, Robinson High School's boys' track team has had at least one athlete earn a medal at the state track meet.

This year, one athlete won a pair of medals, as RHS junior Negus Bogard placed in two events at the IHSA Class 1A Boys Track State Finals at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston (May 25).

Bogard again showed why he is considered one of the top distance runners in the state, as he finished third in the 1600 and eighth in the 3200 during the finals of the event Saturday on the EIU Track at O'Brien Field.

In the 1600, Bogard finished with a time of 4:26.12, which was less than two seconds shy of first place and .06 seconds behind the second-place finisher. Seneca's Christopher Collett won the race with a time of 4:24.71, while Noah McIntyre of Athens also finished ahead of Bogard in 4:26.06.

In the 3200, Bogard posted a time of 9:48.29, which was just over 12 seconds behind race winner Collett, who finished with a time of 9:36.99.

Bogard's efforts also earned nine team points for Robinson, which placed the Maroons in a tie for 30th place out of 88 teams that scored in the meet.

Salt Fork won the team championship with 40 points, just ahead of DuQuoin and Pana, who tied for second with 36 points apiece.
