Statesmen drop three in Alabama
| It was a rough weekend on the diamond for Lincoln Trail College's baseball team in their return trip to Alabama.|
After winning three of four games in Alabama the weekend before, the Statesmen dropped all three of their games this weekend.
Lincoln Trail fell to Snead State 6-0 on Friday (March 1), then lost to Lawson State (6-5) and Snead State (11-1) on Saturday (March 2).
In Friday's game, it was a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the sixth, as neither team scored until Snead State broke through for all six of their runs to take control.
John Kehoe led LTC with a triple, while Carter Poiry and Bryant Shellenbarger each posted a double.
John Cheatwood took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out nine in five and two-thirds innings. Reid Brown gave up three runs on a hit and two walks without retiring a batter and Brayden Burtch allowed a hit and a walk in one-third of an inning.
Against Lawson State Saturday, LTC struck early with a run in the first, then added another run in the third for a 2-0 lead. However, Lawson State plated three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Lawson State added a run the bottom of the fifth, but LTC responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead at 5-4. The score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth, when Lawson State rallied for two runs to score the walk-off victory.
T.J. Janahashi led the LTC offense with a double, a single and a run batted in, while Poiry doubled and scored a run. Roy Thurman posted a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Christian Bault singled twice, Bryson Bloomer doubled, Kehoe knocked in a run and scored a run and Jack Gallagher scored a run.
