Lady Statesmen beat John A. Logan, 62-54

Strong play down the stretch continued for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team Tuesday night (Feb. 26).

The Lady Statesmen picked up a big road win, as they held off John A. Logan College for a 62-54 victory in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference contest.

Lincoln Trail jumped on top early, building a 19-8 lead after one quarter. However, the Lady Statesmen were outscored 18-12 in the second quarter and only held a 31-26 advantage at halftime. Lincoln Trail extended their lead to 45-38 after three quarters, then outscored John A. Logan 17-16 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory, which is the sixth in the last seven games for the Lady Statesmen.

The Lady Statesmen survived a poor shooting night to earn the win, as they made just 25-70 field goal attempts (36 percent). That included a 21-57 performance from two-point range (37 percent) and a 4-13 effort from three-point range (31 percent).

Fortunately, John A. Logan was even worse, hitting only 20-65 shots from the floor (31 percent), including 16-40 inside the arc (40 percent) and 4-25 from long distance (16 percent).

Britney Epperson led LTC with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Emelia Bryant posted 14 points, two rebounds and one assist. Olivia Bryant contributed eight points, five rebounds, three steals and one assist, Jaylynn Brown collected seven points, five rebounds and two assists, Kaitlin Adams netted six points and two steals, Taylor Bradley recorded five points, eight rebounds and one assist, Alexis True totaled five points, five steals, four assists and one rebound and Shamarrhea Young added two points, one rebound and one assist.

ZaKyra Stallworth led John A. Logan with 12 points, 13 rebounds, six blocked shots and one assist, while Alicia Hornbuckle posted 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals and Kalveona Pepper contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
