Desperately needing a win to give them a chance to climb back up the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and District 16 standings, Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team put together a strong first half on the road at No. 5-ranked John A. Logan College.

Unfortunately for the Statesmen, they could not duplicate their performance in the second half and wound up on the wrong end of an 87-75 decision Tuesday night (Feb. 26).

Lincoln Trail played well early and held a 37-32 lead at halftime, then were able to push their lead as big as 11, 61-50, with 9:30 to play, but they could not make it stand up.

The Statesmen were outscored 37-14 over the final 9:30 of the game, allowing John A. Logan to pick up the come-from-behind victory.

Lincoln Trail was again solid from the three-point line, knocking down 13-27 attempts (48 percent), while John A. Logan hit 10-29 from long range (35 percent).

However, the Statesmen were outscored 40-30 from inside the arc and 17-6 at the free throw line, allowing John A. Logan to overcome LTC's advantage from beyond the arc.

The Statesmen were just 6-9 at the free throw line (67 percent), while John A. Logan hit 17-22 foul shots (77 percent).

All nine players who saw action for LTC found the scoring column, led by Casius Bell Jr. with 14 points, two rebounds and two steals. Lawrence Williams posted 12 points and six rebounds, Daniel Hurst totaled 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot, Alex Heath contributed nine points, three assists, one rebound and one steal, Lamar Lillard recorded nine points, two rebounds and one steal, Justin Williams collected eight points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one blocked shot, Dante Combs registered seven points, two assists, one rebound and one blocked shot, Meeko Bond netted four points, three rebounds and one assist and Jaylon Holmes added two points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.
