Statesmen win pair of games at Olney
JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

Starting the season strong was the goal and that is exactly what Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team did over the weekend.

The Statesmen rolled to a pair of wins at the season-opening Rotary Classic at Olney Central College, 91-56 over Glen Oaks Community College Friday (Nov. 2) and 107-78 over Quakerdale Prep on Saturday (Nov. 3).

In Friday's opener, Lincoln Trail built a 45-27 lead at halftime, then outscored Glen Oaks 46-29 in the second half to pull away for the easy win.

Balanced scoring led the Statesmen, with six players getting into double figures. Justin Williams and Dante Combs shared scoring honors with 15 points apiece, while Lamar Lillard and Casius Bell each tossed in 14, Lawrence Williams and Jaylon Holmes each scored 10, Meeko Bond netted nine and Hunter Ragan and Daniel Hurst added two points apiece.

Joe Rush led Glen Oaks with 17 points, while Davon Bradley also reached double digits with 11.

On Saturday, LTC held a 48-34 lead at halftime, then exploded for 59 points over the final 20 minutes on their way to outscoring Quakerdale 59-44 to run away with the win.

While the Statesmen were not quite as balanced as the game before, they still placed four players in double figures. Combs led the way with 27 points, while Bell tossed in 20, including six three-pointers. Justin Williams and Lawrence Williams netted 10 points apiece, Holmes scored eight, Bond, Lillard and J.T. Counts each collected seven, Ragan added five and Hurst and Deante Booker had three points apiece.

Only six players found the scoring column for Quakerdale, but five reached double figures. Dezmond Washington led the way with 20 points, while Mike Barker tossed in 15 points, Jonathan Daniels and Deland Phillips each scored 12, Naquan Addison netted 10 and Jaquez Harris added nine.
