It was an up and down day for Robinson's Kaden Buchanan on the first day of the IHSA Class 1A Boys Tennis State Finals Thursday (May 24).
Buchanan sandwiched a win in between a pair of losses and was eliminated on Day 1 of the tournament held in Chicagoland area.
In his opening match, Buchanan lost in two sets to No. 3-ranked Nicolas Welker of Burlington Central, 0-6, 0-6. Buchanan rebounded in his first consolation contest, blanking Fairfield's Jacob Britt 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the next round. His journey would end there, however, as Buchanan dropped a two-set match to Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge's Max Kueller, 1-6, 2-6.
With his one victory, Buchanan earned Robinson one team point, tying the Maroons for 50th among the 61 teams that scored on Day 1.
