Lady Panthers thump Red Hill for title, 13-3
IHSA Class 1A Softball Regional

Regional titles have become the norm for Oblong High School's softball team.

The Lady Panthers won their fourth title in the last five seasons Saturday (May 19) after whipping Red Hill, 13-3, in the championship game of the IHSA Class 1A Red Hill Regional in Bridgeport.

Oblong opened the scoring with a run in the first, then broke the game open with an eight-run third inning - which was capped by Samantha Johnson's three-run home run - to make the score 9-0. Red Hill responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, only for the Lady Panthers to answer with four runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits and a couple of errors to extend their advantage to 13-3.

"If we score early, I feel pretty good about our chances," OHS head coach Galen Slover said. "These girls have been through this before and know what to expect. They know how to take care of business this time of year."

The game was called due to the 10-run rule after Red Hill was retired in the top of the fifth.

Samantha Johnson led the OHS offense with a home run, a single, three runs batted in and three runs scored, while Summer Johnson doubled twice, singled, knocked in a run and scored a run. Aireka Burke tripled, singled, scored twice and drove in a run, Harley Harrison singled twice, scored two runs and knocked in a run, Madison Neeley doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored a run, Abbie Dart added a double, a run batted in and a run scored, Nyah Laino singled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Allison Miller singled and drove in a run and Kenzi McIntosh and Alicia Manhart each scored a run.

Camryn Travis earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out seven in five innings.

Slover added he is appreciative of all the support they have gotten from the community throughout the season.

"Our fans travel really well," Slover said. "We really appreciate all the support they have given us."
