Tigers hammer Martinsville, 16-2, to pick up first win of the season
| Runs came in bunches for Hutsonville-Palestine's baseball team Monday (April 9), as the Tigers were able to pick up their first victory of the season.|
The Tigers scored four times as many runs as they had scored for the season on their way to a 16-2 whipping of Martinsville in Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division action.
Hutsonville-Palestine opened the floodgates early, scoring eight times in the first inning to take control. The Tigers plated another run in the second and tacked on four more in the third to make the score 13-0. After Martinsville scored twice in the top of the fourth, Hutsonville-Palestine answered with three more runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring.
The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Kegan Cooper led Hutsonville-Palestine at the plate with three singles, four runs batted in and two runs scored, while Brennen Burkett doubled, singled twice and scored two runs. Jebb Revalee doubled, singled, scored twice and knocked in a run, Payton McDaniel singled twice and scored two runs, Wyatt Kennedy posted a base hit, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Will Newlin singled, drove in a run and scored a run, Evan Newlin scored twice and knocked in a run, Jess Newlin drove in a run and Isaac York and Max Illyes each scored a run.
Burkett earned the win on the mound, giving up a run on no hits, while walking two and striking out eight in three innings. Levi Beard finished up, allowing an unearned run on two hits, while walking two and striking out two in two innings.
