Scoring runs wasn't an issue for Oblong High School's softball team Tuesday.
Unfortunately, keeping their opponent of the scoreboard was.
The Lady Panthers put five runs on the board in their non-conference game at Charleston, but the host squad racked up 13 to pick up the win.
Oblong bunched their runs together, scoring twice in the second to take a brief 2-1 lead and plating three more in the sixth. Charleston, on the other hand, scored in five of their six at-bats, taking the lead for good with a four-run third inning to break a 2-2 tie. The Lady Trojans then plated five runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-2, then after Oblong closed the gap to 11-5 with three runs in the top of the sixth, Charleston tacked on two more in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Kailyn Pinkston led OHS at the plate with a two-run home run, while Kira Meese doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in a run. Emily Lockhart singled and knocked in a run, Cheyenne Wells singled and scored a run, Hallie Allen and Magahn Wells added a base hit apiece and Taylor Smith scored a run.
Lockhart started and took the loss on the mound. She and Baylee Sparks combined to give up 13 runs on 16 hits, while walking four and striking out three in six innings.
Oblong (6-12) will play host to Neoga for a non-conference contest Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Panthers are also slated to play at Teutopolis Friday and at the Olney Tournament Saturday to close out the regular season.
