Lady Statesmen swept at Kaskaskia
By JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

Getting hits is one thing, scoring runs is another.

Lincoln Trail College's softball team had trouble doing the latter Tuesday and it resulted in a pair of losses at Kaskaskia College in a Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader.

The Lady Statesmen outhit Kaskaskia in the first game 9-6, but came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision, then were blown out in the second game, 11-1.

In game one, Kaskaskia scored twice in the first inning to take an early lead, but LTC came back with two runs in the fourth to even the score. Kaskaskia plated two more runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, while the Lady Statesmen scored once in the seventh and had runners on second and third, but could not get any more runs across the plate.

Ashlyn Sullivan led LTC at the plate with a double, a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Keegan Jones doubled and singled. Olivia Titus doubled and scored a run, Alexis Hensley posted a base hit and a run scored, McKenzi Kelly singled twice, Courtney Rudolph added a base hit and Allie Minton drove in two runs.

Daphne Dunegan took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits, while walking four and striking out one in six innings.

In game two, Kaskaskia scored early and often and never looked back. Kaskaskia plated three runs in the first inning to grab the early lead, then scored one more in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth for an 11-0 lead. Lincoln Trail scored their lone run in the fifth, but the game was still stopped due to the 10-run rule.

Hensley led the offense for LTC with a triple, a double and a run batted in, while Minton and Jones each had a base hit and Rudolph scored a run.

Patience Tincher suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 11 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits, while walking five and striking out one in four innings.

Lincoln Trail (2-9, 0-2 GRAC) will play at Southwestern Illinois College for a GRAC doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m.
