LTC softball splits pair in Arkansas
Sports Editor

Lincoln Trail College's softball team did not get on the field as much as they wanted to over the weekend, but they did get some action.

The Lady Statesmen opened their season by splitting a doubleheader at Crowley's Ridge College in Arkansas Saturday in a pair of one-run decisions.

Lincoln Trail dropped the first game of the twinbill 4-3, but won the nightcap 6-5.

In game one, Lincoln Trail scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead, then added single runs in the fourth and fifth for a 3-0 advantage. However, Crowley's Ridge rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and held on for the win.

Ashlyn Sullivan led LTC at the plate with two doubles and two runs batted in, while McKenzi Kelly singled and scored two runs. Allie Minton posted a base hit and a run batted in, Shayla Hughes and Keegan Jones each added a base hit and Alexis Hensley scored a run.

Patience Tincher suffered the loss on the mound in relief, giving up four runs, two earned, on two hits, while walking five and striking out three in two innings. Daphne Dunegan started and went four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out one.

Roles were reversed in the second game, as Crowley's Ridge scored three times in the first and twice in the second to take a 5-0 lead, only to see LTC rally. The Lady Statesmen scored once in the third, then broke through for four runs in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. Lincoln Trail then plated a run in the seventh and was able to hold on for the win.

Hensley led the offense for LTC with three singles, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Sullivan doubled, singled and scored a run. Minton posted a pair of base hits, Tincher singled and scored twice, Hughes added a base hit, Olivia Titus had two runs batted in, Dunegan knocked in a run and Paige Oakley scored a run.

Dunegan earned the win on the mound in relief, allowing one run on nine hits, while striking out five in five and one-third innings. Tincher started and went one and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks.

Lincoln Trail (1-1) was scheduled to play host to Southeastern Illinois College Thursday at 2 p.m. but that game has been moved to March 28.
