Lady Panthers, Lady Tigers both lose

Two Crawford County volleyball teams saw their seasons come to an end Monday night at the Class 1A Regional at Shiloh.

In the first match of the night, fifth-seeded Oblong fell to fourth-seed and host Hume Shiloh in their opening round match in two sets, 14-25, 13-25.

Kira Meese led OHS with four points, five assists, two kills and two digs, while Kailyn Pinkston totaled three points with one ace, nine digs, two kills and one block. Emily Lockhart posted two points, three digs, two kills and two blocks, Samantha Pepmeier netted two points, five digs and one assist and Cheyenne Wells added one point and five digs.

In the second first round match, sixth-seeded Hutsonville-Palestine fell to third-seeded Chrisman in two sets, 24-26, 19-25.

"We led the whole first set and should have put them away, but didn't," HHS-PHS head coach Jolene Crippes-Callaway said. "In the second set, we trailed the whole way and stalled at 19 points. There was nothing tough about this match, we just didn't get it done, which has been the case all season."

Rhiannon Pearse led Hutsonville-Palestine with 14 spikes with three kills, nine good serves with five aces and five blocks with three stuffs, while Emily Nehls posted 46 good sets and four good serves with two aces. Rachel Gower netted nine spikes with two kills and six blocks, McKenna Elder added eight good serves with one ace and nine good sets, Taci Newlin totaled seven good sets, four spikes with two kills and two blocks with one stuff and Kiley Rariden had seven spikes with three kills and five good serves.

Oblong finished the season with a 3-16 record, while Hutsonville-Palestine ended their season with a 5-19 record.

Hume Shiloh advances to play top-seeded Tri-County in the first semifinal tonight at 6, while Chrisman will play second-seeded Martinsville in the second semifinal at 7 p.m.
