A strong second day helped Robinson's Tom Goodman finish as one of the top 20 golfers in the state this weekend at the Class 1A Golf State Finals in Bloomington.
Goodman shot a two-day total of 14-over-par 158 to finish tied for 17th at Prairie Vista Golf Course.
The sophomore struggled a bit on Friday, shooting a nine-over 81 that left him tied for 36th heading into Saturday's final round. However, Goodman rebounded to shoot a five-over 77 on Saturday to climb up the standings.
In his first round Friday, Goodman started on the back nine with a 39, then struggled a bit on the front with a 42.
On Saturday, Goodman again shot 39 on the back, but fared much better on the front. He carded a 38 on his final nine holes, including birdies on the par-5 fourth hole and the par-4 ninth.
Stockton's Trey Timpe won the individual title with a total score of one-over 145, edging Eureka's Trevor Gold (146) by one stroke.
El Paso-Gridley won the team championship with a two-day total of 71-over-par 647, which was nine shots better than second-place Winnetka North Shore Country Day, who totaled 656.
