Being a little short-handed did not effect Robinson High School's girls' tennis team Monday.
With Katie Beals finishing up singles play in the Little Illini Conference Tournament in Olney, the Lady Maroons shuffled their line-up a bit, but still were able to defeat visiting Paris in a dual match, 9-0.
"We played some great tennis this evening," RHS head coach John Ireland said. "We were able to get 12 different players in a varsity match tonight and they all stepped up to get a 9-0 win."
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, with Sierra Henry, Madison Buchanan, Brittney Fuller, Melissa Jenkins, Emily Harp and Reagan Stephens each picking up a win.
Meanwhile, all three doubles matches needed three sets. Brooke Taylor and Aviana Beckes rallied to win at No. 1 over Meredith Penczeck and Haley Gates, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, as did Amy Watts and Jordan Mikeworth at No. 3 over Mackenzie Martin and Emilie Emberton, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-2). Meanwhile, Lillie Hargis and Abbie Blunier teamed up at No. 2 to defeat Fize Selimoska and Miranda Myers, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
"Our singles players did a great job tonight to allow so many players to get into the match," Ireland said. "Doubles had some very close matches, but all flights were able to pull through. We have consistently become stronger as a team and tonight we put together a great match."
