Tough competition and ideal weather conditions brought mixed results for Robinson High School's cross country teams Tuesday.
The Maroons finished second, while the Lady Maroons were third in three-team meets with visiting Mattoon and Marshall.
"We ran really well," RHS head coach Tony Cork said. "Our top seven boys had their season or career-best times and five of our seven girls did as well. You can't ask for more than that. Having a decent day to run really helped, too."
In the boys' meet, Robinson totaled 37 points, which was just behind Mattoon's winning total of 28, but way ahead of Marshall, who came in third with 59.
Robinson was led by Henry Treadway, who finished fourth with a time of 17:02. Noah Tennison came in sixth at 17:18, while Gordon Pinkston was right behind in seventh with a time of 17:25. Tyler Thompson also scored with a ninth-place finish in 17:36, as did Cole Fiscus with an 11th-place effort in 17:45.
Also finishing for RHS were Joey Wright (14th 18:12), Cole Chipman (19th 18:53), Landon Tracy (22nd 19:54) and Riley Guyer (31st 21:59).
Marshall's Ben Scamihorn won the race with a time of 16:31, while Mattoon's Ben Righter and James Kimball were second and third with times of 16:48 and 16:58, respectively.
In the girls' meet, Robinson finished with 62 points, which was just behind Marshall's second-place total of 56. Mattoon ran away with the meet with 17 points.
Top finisher for RHS was Lauren Erickson in eighth with a time of 21:46, while Stephanie Hawkins was ninth in 22:19. Mykaela Thomas finished 15th in 25:03, Kirstyn Bowen was 16th in 25:41, Kendra Buchanan finished 17th in 25:44, Cassidy Jones was 20th in 28:18 and Sabrina Malone was 23rd in 30:57.
