Lady Tigers drop close one to Shiloh
Sports Editor

Inconsistent play and missed opportunities proved costly for Hutsonville-Palestine's volleyball team Monday night.

The Lady Tigers held leads in both sets, but could not gain a victory, dropping their match to Shiloh in straight sets, 23-25, 26-28.

"We gave this match away," HHS-PHS head coach Jolene Crippes-Callaway said. "In the first set we led 9-0 and then 17-7, but then we went in to alien mode and let them in the door. In the second set, we were behind, but pulled to a 20-18 lead, then we had to battle the rest of the set to get on top. But then we squandered our opportunities in this match to win. The talent is there, we just have to step over ourselves and capitalize on our opportunities."

Rhiannon Pearse led Hutsonville-Palestine with 11 good serves, including six aces, along with five blocks with two stuffs and three spikes with one kill, while Taci Newlin posted eight spikes with two kills, seven good serves with three aces and eight good sets. Emily Nehls totaled 47 good sets, four good serves, three spikes and one stuff block, Kiley Rariden netted eight good serves and six spikes with one kill, Payton Lindley added eight good serves and McKenna Elder had five good sets and three good serves.

In the junior varsity match, Hutsonville-Palestine lost in three sets, 25-27, 25-22, 18-25.

Julie Gower led the Lady Tigers with 14 good serves, including four aces and seven spikes with four kills, while Rariden totaled 11 good serves with one ace, 11 spikes with five kills and two blocks. Newlin posted 21 good sets, 11 good serves with one ace, five spikes with two kills and two blocks, Chloe Fulling contributed seven spikes with two kills and six good serves with one ace and Baylee Baker had 20 good sets and nine good serves.
