Oblong's junior high softball team has racked up several wins recently in impressive fashion and even collected some hardware in the process.
Oblong won the Oblong Invitational Tournament Aug. 31, as they swept visiting Red Hill and Newton in the round-robin event.
The Lady Tigers opened up the tournament with a 13-1 whipping of Red Hill.
Oblong built a 5-0 lead after three innings, then broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning.
Samantha Johnson and Abbie Dart combined to toss a no-hitter over five innings. Johnson got the win, as she walked just one batter in four innings of work, while Dart gave up a run on two walks in an inning of work.
Nyah Laino paced OGS at the plate with a triple, two singles, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Summer Johnson posted two singles, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Camryn Mendenhall singled twice, drove in a run and scored a run, Camryn Travis doubled and scored a run, Samantha Johnson singled and scored two runs, Dart added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Katelyn Leggitt knocked in a run and scored a run and Belle Kemp and Kirsten Potts each scored a run.
Against Newton, Oblong picked up a 6-2 victory.
Summer Johnson led the offense for OGS with a triple and four runs batted in, while Samantha Johnson singled and scored three runs. Dart posted a single and two runs batted in, Jenna Davis singled and scored a run and Laino and Travis each knocked in a run.
Travis went the distance on the mound to earn the win, allowing two runs, walking five and striking out four.
In a regular season game Tuesday, Oblong blanked Lawrenceville 12-0.
Dart led OGS with two singles and three runs scored, while Travis doubled and scored a run. Samantha Johnson and Laino posted a single and two runs scored apiece, Kemp singled and scored a run, Summer Johnson scored two runs and Shalyn Fear scored a run.
