Maroons edge Panthers in pitcher's duel, 1-0
JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

For the second time in less than a week, Robinson High School's baseball team was involved in a good, old-fashioned pitcher's duel.

And for the second time, the Maroons came out on the winning end.

Runs were hard to come by for Robinson and Oblong's baseball teams Friday, but the Maroons managed to get the only run of the game early, then held on for a 1-0 win in the non-conference contest at Oblong.

There were only seven hits total in the game between the two teams, all of which were singles.

Pitching dominated, as Robinson's Logan Johnson and Oblong's James Rogers combined for 16 strikeouts over seven innings.

The lone run came in the second inning, when Robinson's Brayden Scott was hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third on a ground out by Michael Elliott, then scored on a two-out single by Rex Grissom.

The only other hit for the Maroons was a single by Gunther VanWinkle.

Meanwhile, Oblong managed five hits, including two by Collin Meese. Michael Brown, Kyler Fear and Jason Midgett also had a single apiece, but the Panthers could not find a way to manufacture any runs.

Johnson went the distance to earn the win on the mound for RHS, allowing five hits and no walks, while striking out seven in seven innings.

Rogers was nearly as good, giving up a run on two hits and three walks, while striking out nine in seven innings.
