Oblong High School's junior varsity baseball team ended their season on a positive note Wednesday, as the Panthers edged visiting Robinson, 3-2.
Robinson grabbed an early lead by scoring two runs in the first, but Oblong got single runs in the second, third and fourth, then held on the rest of the way to pick up the victory.
Zander Laino led OHS at the plate with a single, a run batted in and a run scored, while Braiden Inboden singled and scored a run. Tristan Woods added a double, Koert Mehler drove in a run and Chance Wall scored a run.
Laino also went the distance on the mound to earn the win, allowing two runs on three hits, while walking three and striking out nine in seven innings.
Robinson was led by Tristen Murphy with a double and two runs batted in, while Cole Newlin and Jacob Lorance posted a base hit and a run scored apiece.
Cole Blankenbeker took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs - one earned - on three hits, while walking five and striking out six in four innings. Lucas Roth tossed two scoreless innings of relief, striking out one of the eight batters he faced.
Earlier this week, the fresh-soph Maroons found the win column for the first time this season, as they defeated visiting Sullivan, Ind., 8-3, on Monday.
Robinson jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, but Sullivan even the score with runs in the second and third. Robinson regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third, but Sullivan again tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth. Robinson jumped back in front with a run in the bottom of the fifth, then tacked on four runs in the sixth to pull away for the win.
Murphy earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs - two earned - on six hits, while striking out three and walking none in seven innings.
