RHS softball falls at Newton, FS wins
| For the second straight game, Robinson High School's softball team had one bad inning that ended up being costly in a loss.|
Following a loss in the championship game of the Robinson Invitational, the Lady Maroons followed with an 8-3 loss at Newton in Little Illini Conference play.
Robinson started well, scoring twice in the top of the first, but Newton plated two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Newton scored a run in the third to take the lead, but the Lady Maroons came back with a run in the top of the fourth to even the score at 3-3. Newton responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good, then added a run in the sixth to seal the win.
Kyndal Mendenhall led the RHS offense with two singles, a run batted in and a run scored, while Ashlyn Sullivan singled twice and scored a run. Connor York and Olivia Hickey added a base hit apiece for the Lady Maroons and Madison Bayless scored a run.
Bayless was tagged with the loss in relief for RHS, giving up five runs on six hits and a walk in three and two-thirds innings. Parker Corder started and went two and one-third innings, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks, while striking out one.
In a freshman-sophomore game at Newton, Robinson outslugged Newton for a 14-11 win.
Sonnie Givens led the offense for RHS with a home run and three singles, while Anna Stephens doubled and singled three times. Alisha Lewis added three singles, Jordyn Weger had a double and a single and Kirstyn Bowen singled twice.
Alaina Randolph picked up the win on the mound for RHS, recording two strikeouts along the way.
