Lady Panthers fall to Red Hill, 3-1, in Little Illini Conference play
| Monday's results were better, but the outcome was still the same for Oblong High School's softball team.|
The Lady Panthers played better than they had in the previous outings, but still came up on the short end to Red Hill, 3-1, in Little Illini Conference play.
"We are trying to win little battles," OHS head coach Galen Slover said. "Hopefully, eventually, that will turn into full-fledged wins."
In a game that was supposed to be played in Oblong but moved to Bridgeport due to wet field conditions, Red Hill scored twice in the second inning to take an early lead, then added an insurance run in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Oblong got their lone run in the fifth on a solo home run by Kelsie Harper, but it was not enough.
Harper led the offense for OHS with her home run, while Ashlei Tuel had a double. Cheyenne Wells and Michaela Manhart added a base hit apiece for the Lady Panthers.
Tuel suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking four and striking out two in five innings. Emily Lockhart pitched two scoreless innings of relief, walking one batter and striking out five.
"The pitching was good and the defense was good," Slover said. "We are putting the ball in play and struck out just once, but we are hitting a lot of balls hard. We had two runners thrown out at the plate, which one of them was my fault. But, we are being aggressive and trying to do some things. We are getting better and will keep working on it."
