The third time was not the charm for Robinson High School's softball team Tuesday.
Having already lost to Olney twice heading into their Little Illini Conference match-up, the Lady Maroons put out their best effort of the three meetings, but still came out on the short end of a 4-2 score. Robinson lost the previous two meetings 13-3 and 3-0.
On Tuesday, neither team scored until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Olney broke through for three runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. Robinson scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close the gap to 3-2, but Olney tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.
The loss was the third straight for the Lady Maroons in LIC play and their fourth in the last five games.
Robinson outhit Olney 7-6, but was unable to put them together to produce runs.
Madison Bayless led RHS at the plate with a solo home run and a single, while Olivia Hickey added a double. Kinsey Fear, Parker Corder, Connor York and Emily Calip added a base hit apiece for the Lady Maroons and Mallory Kent scored a run.
Corder took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs - three earned - on six hits, while walking five and striking out one in six innings of work.
