Maroons nipped by Effingham St. Anthony, 4-3
Sports Editor

Playing well does not always mean a team is going to come out with a win.

Unfortunately, that was the case for Robinson High School's baseball team Friday.

The Maroons stayed with host Effingham St. Anthony and held an early lead, but came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision in non-conference action.

"We played really well," RHS head coach Scott Albright said. "A few things go our way and we win."

Robinson got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first inning and once in the second to take a 3-0 lead. However, Effingham St. Anthony countered with a three-run third inning to tie the game. The score remained 3-3 until the bottom of the sixth, when St. Anthony pushed across the eventual winning run and were able to hold on for the victory.

Landen Hoagland led the Maroons at the plate with two singles and three runs batted in, while Blake Hale doubled twice and scored a run. Michael Elliott singled and scored two runs, Gunther VanWinkle added a pair of base hits and Brayden Scott, Colton Williamson and Bucky Stevens had a single apiece.

Logan Johnson suffered the loss, despite going the distance on the mound. He allowed four runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out two in six innings of work.

"Logan did a good job on the mound," Albright said. "He kept them guessing all game."
