All good things must come to an end at some point - including winning streaks.

Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team saw their six-game conference winning streak halted in their regular-season finale Saturday, when they dropped an 84-79 decision on the road to Wabash Valley College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

The Statesmen dug themselves an early hole, but could not climb all the way out of it, as they suffered their first conference since the end of January and their first loss overall in two weeks.

Lincoln Trail fell behind 42-30 at halftime, then outscored Wabash Valley 49-42 in the second half before falling short.

The Statesmen shot the ball well, making 48 percent of their field goal attempts (31-64), including 26-46 from two-point range (57 percent) and 5-18 from three-point range (28 percent), but Wabash Valley was even better. The Warriors blistered the nets at a 62 percent clip (28-45), which included a 19-31 effort from inside the arc (61 percent) and a 9-14 performance from long distance (64 percent). Wabash Valley was also 19-32 from the free throw line (59 percent), while Lincoln Trail made 12-17 foul shots (71 percent).

Lincoln Trail did outrebound Wabash Valley 33-25 and committed just 15 turnovers to 24 for the Warriors, but it was not enough to overcome Wabash Valley's hot shooting.

Dennis Hightower led LTC with 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and one steal, while Jesse Tesmer totaled 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal. Nick Painter posted 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot, Caleb Begle netted 10 points and one steal, Jake Newton contributed nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, Adam Hendrix chipped in with seven points and one rebound, Ron Dietz collected five points and one steal, John Bootz recorded four points and one rebound, Daryll Walker added three points and one rebound, and Lawrence Smith had two points and three rebounds.

Phillip Jackson led Wabash Valley with 19 points and six rebounds, while Lawrence Kinney also tossed in 19 points. Rontray Chavis was also in double figures with 14 points, as was Alexander Carr with 13.
