An early deficit proved to be too much for Robinson High School's girls' basketball team to overcome Thursday night.
The Lady Maroons tried to rally from behind all night, but ultimately came up short to Casey-Westfield in a 51-38 loss in Little Illini Conference play, spoiling Senior Night in the process.
Robinson fell behind 17-8 after one quarter, but played pretty even with Casey-Westfield after that. The Lady Maroons outscored Casey-Westfield 9-8 in the second quarter to close the gap to 25-17 at halftime, then put together an 8-1 run in the third quarter to get within one, before Casey-Westfield pushed the lead out to 36-28 heading into the final period. Casey-Westfield sealed the win by outscoring RHS 15-10 in the fourth quarter.
"The girls played hard, but couldn't catch a break," RHS head coach Dave Holubek said. "The girls fought until the end, but shots didn't fall and after we got within one, it just slipped away from us."
Emily Calip led RHS with 15 points, while Kyndal Mendenhall tossed in eight points for the Lady Maroons. Brittany Quick and Kylee Hannahs netted six points apiece and Ashlyn Sullivan scored three.
Kyleigh Decker led Casey-Westfield with 19 points, while Taylor Birchfield was also in double figures with 12.
There was no junior varsity game, as Casey-Westfield did not have enough players available.
Robinson also lost a pair of freshman-sophomore games at Paris Wednesday.
In the "A" game, the Lady Maroons lost 24-13. Tessa Laino led RHS with 11 points, while Alisha Lewis scored two.
In the "B" game, Robinson lost 30-26. Laino again led RHS with 11 points, while Emily Keeler scored seven. Maralee Birkofer tossed in four points for the Lady Maroons and Kelsie Thompson and Lewis added two points apiece.
Robinson (5-14, 3-7 LIC) will play host to Marshall for a LIC contest and the regular-season finale Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
