Close but no cigar sums up the effort of Palestine-Hutsonville's girls' basketball team's performance on the road at Flora in Little Illini Conference play Monday night.

The Lady Pioneers hung with the Wolfgals throughout their league contest, but just could never get over the hump, resulting in a 54-44 loss.

Palestine-Hutsonville trailed by just three, 12-9, after one quarter of play, but Flora outscored the Lady Pioneers 13-12 in the second quarter to extend their advantage to 25-21 at halftime. Flora got the separation they would need in the third period, outscoring Palestine-Hutsonville 14-8 to take a 39-29 lead, then each team scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to reach the final margin.
