A bad fourth quarter turned a close game into a double-digit loss for Robinson High School's girls' basketball team Monday night.
The effort was much better, but result was still the same for the Lady Maroons, as they lost to visiting Red Hill, 42-27, in Little Illini Conference play.
Robinson hung right with Red Hill for much of three quarters, as they Lady Maroons trailed just 11-9 after the first quarter and were down 22-20 at halftime after each team scored 11 points in the second period. Red Hill outscored Robinson 6-2 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 28-22, then outscored the Lady Maroons 14-5 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
The Lady Maroons shot the ball well from the free throw line, making 10-14 attempts (71 percent), while Red Hill was 6-10 from the charity stripe (60 percent). However, Red Hill made twice as many field goals as Robinson (16-8), which included outscoring the Lady Maroons 12-3 from behind the three-point line.
Emily Calip led RHS with nine points, while Kylee Hannahs and Mickey Shook scored five points apiece. Brittany Quick tossed in four points for the Lady Maroons and Kyndal Mendenhall and Ashlyn Sullivan each added two.
Taylor Paulin led Red Hill with 20 points, including three three-pointers, while twin sister Tori netted 12 for the Lady Salukis.
Robinson also lost the junior varsity game, 24-13.
Tessa Laino led RHS with seven points, Alisha Lewis scored three, Megan Acord netted two and Kelsie Thompson added one.
