Lady Maroons hold off Olney in three

Revenge is always sweet, but it becomes even sweeter when it comes on the opponent's home court.

Robinson High School's volleyball team exacted revenge on Little Illini Conference rival Olney Thursday by picking up a three-set win on the road, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19.

The win avenged a non-conference loss in three sets to the Lady Tigers in Robinson on Sept. 18.

"This was a very good win for us tonight," RHS head coach Eric Dean said. "Olney beat us in a close game at our place a couple of weeks ago, but tonight we were able to turn the table on the them."

Jasmine Brooks paced RHS with 14 points, including four aces, along with nine digs, one assist and one kill. Madison Bayless totaled nine points with four aces, nine digs, eight assists and one kill, Nicole Kelso posted seven points with two aces, three digs, one assist and one kill, Kari Bopp netted three points, 12 assists, eight digs and three kills, Kylee Hannahs contributed three points, 18 digs, eight kills and two assists and Sonnie Givens added a team-high 10 kills along with one dig.

"It was a total team effort," Dean said. "In the first set, we came out on fire. Kylee had six kills in that set alone. Jasmine and Madison both had big service runs and Nicole finished it off. We weren't nearly as sharp in the second set, but in the third, Sonnie came up big with several kills and helped us get the win."

Robinson made it a clean sweep on the night by winning the junior varsity and freshman matches as well.

In the JV match, Robinson won in three sets, 25-16, 15-25, 25-20 to improve to 12-1 on the season.

Lexi Gower topped RHS with 15 points, including nine aces, three digs and two assists, while Courtney Callaway posted 14 points with seven aces, 11 digs and one assist. Karnell Bowen added six points with one ace, seven digs and three kills and Kinsey Fear added three points and four digs.

In the freshman match, Robinson picked up a 25-22, 25-17 win.

Olivia Hickey led the way with 11 points, including three aces, along with four digs, three assists and two kills. Olivia Musch totaled eight points with three aces, four kills and one assist, Gower posted six points with three aces, five digs, three assists and two kills and Corrie Mickey added six points with one ace, three digs and one kill.

Robinson (15-5, 5-2 LIC) will play at Cumberland for a LIC contest Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
