Local hunger-relief effort needs volunteers, funds

Highland Church of Christ is once again sponsoring a Feed My Starving Children meal-packing event Sept. 12-13. Over the two days organizers expect 100,000 meals to be packed locally.

School officials optimistic about funding outlook
Despite the budget battle in Springfield, local schools are ready to start.

Earlier this year the governor signed legislation increasing general state aid payments to local districts - at least promising to reduce the amount of discount. Last year school districts received only 89 percent of the promised GSA payments. This year they are expecting around 92 percent of that money.

New connection for H'ville water online this week
Hutsonville's new water supply should go on line by the end of the week.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the Hutsonville Village Board, Shannon Woodard of Connor and Connor Engineering reported the new water connection between Hutsonville and Robinson-Palestine Water Commission is scheduled to be tested on Thursday and go online Friday.

The potential business, which was not disclosed at the meeting, has hope of opening a new restaurant in town, but needed a liquor license to attract investors to the venture.

Health dept. still giving vaccines for school year
It's not too late to get required immunizations for the 2015-16 school year.

The Crawford County Health Department's last scheduled immunization clinic has already passed, but parents can still get their children vaccinated, Certified Public Health Administrator Darla Tracy said.
