A Clark County man shot himself in the head Wednesday after being approached by police officers about 2:50 p.m. in the 23000 block of Fishback Road. An autopsy for William Waller, 49, is set for this afternoon at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
The East Central Illinois Drug Task Force and the Clark County Sheriff's Office were investigating a marijuana growing operation in rural eastern Clark County. During the investigation, suspected marijuana was observed from the air.
"There were some flyovers by Illinois state police today, there were places that cannabis was thought to be present," Clark County Sheriff Jerry Parsley said in a Wednesday press release.
During a follow-up at the residence, officers tried to make contact with the resident out in the woods. The resident sprang up from a camouflaged hiding place and officers identified themselves to the resident.
Without any additional conversation, the resident shot himself in the head with a handgun, according to a post on the Clark County Sheriff's Department Facebook page. The Clark County Coroner's Office confirmed the suspect died. No one else was injured.
"As we were trying to locate the resident of the property we noticed a lot of cannabis buckets, in places where it was freshly pulled up," Parsley said. "I just wanted to make contact with the (resident.)"
The incident is under investigation by Illinois State Police at the request of the Clark County Sheriff's Department.

I am totally detached from this story and do not know anyone involved. It is unfortunate this person made the decision to end his life,,,,,,, but in the same breath I have to say at least he did not try to take someone else out with him....... too often this in not the case. May his sole rest in peace
