Will the tea party movements sweeping the country affect the November elections?
Please select one:
The tea party will be the biggest reason Congress will get a makeover
Isolated areas will be affected, but not a complete makeover
These are important rallies that allow people to blow off steam, but not much will come of it
They will have little or no effect on the elections

Soldier from Palestine killed in action in Iraq

By DAILY NEWS STAFF

Crawford County has suffered its first fatality in the Iraq War.

U.S. Army PFC Jacob Timothy Tracy, 20, Palestine, reportedly died in surgery Monday after being wounded Sunday. He was the son of Don and Sheila Tracy, Palestine, and attended Palestine High School.

At the time of his death, Tracy was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 1st Troop, 8th Cavalry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas, and currently stationed near Baghdad. According to reports, Tracy was riding in a HUMVEE when it struck an improvised explosive device.

Tracy joined the Army in August of 2006 and had been in Iraq since the first of March.

Don Tracy said his son's body was flown to Dover, Dela., Tuesday and is expected to be flown to the Mid-America Airport in Lawrenceville within the next few days. Tracy's body will be escorted to Palestine by a motorcycle honor guard as well as the U.S. Army where it will be met by local citizens and escorted to the funeral home.

Tracy's death notice appears on Page 3 of today's Daily News.

Another Wabash Valley soldier was killed in Afghanistan during the weekend. Staff Sergeant Roy Lewsader Jr., 36, Clinton, Ind., died in Tarin Kowt when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.

Lewsader was assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division based at Fort Riley, Kansas. In all, 18 Americans have died in Iraq in the past week. Fifty U.S. service personnel have died in Iran or Afghanistan since June 1.
