11/5/2019 10:19:00 AM Oblong Legion, funeral home to conduct Veterans Day ceremony
Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, and the Oblong American Legion Post 219 will conduct their 21st Annual Veterans Day Observance at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong.
The Oblong American Legion Post 219 will be posting colors and there will be a short service and reading of the names on the crosses.
Each year the funeral home and the American Legion Post honor those local Veterans who have died during the past year. This year we will be honoring 350+ plus veterans. Either these veterans had their funeral service with the funeral home along with the American Legion Post or families of the deceased Veterans purchased a cross to honor their deceased veteran.
Each Veteran has a cross with his or her name on it with an American Flag next to the cross. During the service, the Veterans names are read in honor of each Veteran. The crosses will be erected on Friday, Nov. 8, and will be illuminated at night. The public is invited to stop and look at the crosses and attend the service. Chairs will not be available or provided during the service. Please feel free to bring your own if you are not able to stand for very long.
Pulliam Funeral Home and the Oblong Community Service Club will hold a Veterans Day Soup Supper for the public at the Oblong Municipal Building on Monday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. with no charge for the Veterans and their spouses, for everyone else, it will be a free will donation.
