Palestine Unit 3 anticipates a balanced budget this year.
The Unit 3 board approved the 2019-20 budget during its regular monthly meeting Monday. It calls for projected revenues of more than $3.72 million and expenditures of $3.65 million. The meeting was preceded by a public budget hearing during which Interim Superintendent Jo Campbell presented an overview of revenue and expense information contained in the budget and addressed questions.
In other financial business, board members authorized an additional signer for three school district accounts. These include the general checking, imprest fund checking and student activity fund checking.
Also, action was taken to extend the current bus lease agreement with Midwest Transit Equipment for two years at the same yearly rate.
Repair of the storm damaged portion of the Palestine Grade School gymnasium was approved at a special board meeting last week. The board accepted a bid of $70,010 from Martin Roofing, Lebanon.
On Monday, board members accepted an alternate bid from Martin to replace the remaining portion of the gym roof for an additional $26,723. The renovation will bring both sections up to current building code standards.
Following a closed session, the board took action to hire Ray Perkins as a substitute bus driver and Dixie Love as a substitute cook.
Resignations were accepted from fifth and sixth grade cheerleading sponsor Lisa Beabout and high school girls assistant basketball coach Troy Jenkins. Approval was given to post the opening for both of the vacancies.
In other business, the board:
Approved the first reading of a proposed policy that will allow more flexibility for the use of school holidays by custodial and maintenance staff. Also approved was a first reading of a district parent and family engagement policy.
Recieved a thank you note received from the Crawford County Model Railroaders Club. Unit 3 allowed the group to use the Palestine High School gym during the Labor Day weekend.
Approved a short-term substitute training intergovernmental agreement with Regional Office of Education 12.
Authorized a field trip request from the PGS Student Council/Student Senate.
