Hutsonville looks at drainage
By TOM COMPTON
Daily News

The Hutsonville Village Board Tuesday night approved drainage work on the south end of town and some purchase requests for the police department.

Over the past several months the village has been discussing how best to address excess water drainage in the village. Over the past few years the amount of water seeping in to the village has increased and areas the often flood are staying flooded longer and other areas that have not seen water are flooding.

Also during the meeting the board approved a project that would put a 12 inch drain tile along the old railroad tracks parallel with South Rose St. from the Bridgewater property near Cherry St. to the north, all the way to the Rumler property to the south. The tile will then go east under Rose St. and into the Hutsonville Township Park, then on to the Wabash River.

Wing dams with risers will also be installed along the base of the hill to help catch water run off. The cost of the project is $11,375. RKN Field Drainage, Hutsonville, will do the work, which is expected to begin later this month or early in July.

Individual property owners can opt to add additional drain lines connecting to the larger line at their own expense.

A section of High Street from Chestnut to North Street will be getting an upgrade with the help of the county. The narrow roadway will be widened and leveled.

As part of the annual police budget the board gave approval to return some out dated firearms received through a government program that are not suitable for the village needs, and to purchase a patrol rifle and other needed equipment.

A resolution was approved to close Main Street from 5 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 2 for Riverfest. Plans for a beer tent and live entertainment are still on going.

The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, July 9.
