Local residents will have the opportunity to rid themselves of old electronic devices during a upcoming electronics recycling event at the Crawford County Solid Waste Recycling Center, 1630 E. Eaton, Robinson.
The collection, a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20, is sponsored by Ambraw Valley Solid Waste Management and is meant primarily for residential wastes, not materials from businesses.
Ambraw Administrator Bob Gher explained they would accept materials from businesses, if the loads were not too large and would reserve the right to turn away those that were.
He added, however, "we don't want to turn anyone away."
Items that may be accepted include televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners DVD players, DVD recorders and VCRs video game consoles, digital converter boxes. cable and satellite receivers, electronic keyboards, electronic mice and portable digital players.
There is a charge for some items to offset expenses. For example, the fee for televisions with screens up to 20 inches is $15. Larger TVs are $20.
Meanwhile, local communities are gearing up for their annual spring cleanup days.
In Robinson, city workers will pick up yard waste April 29 to May 3. Republic Services will collect other items on paid customers' regular pickup days May 6 to 10.
In Palestine, cleanup is April 24 to 26, with items collected on customers' regular pickup days.
Hutsonville cleanup is April 23 and Oblong's is April 25.
