Local properties with overdue taxes dating back to 2014 are going on the auction block.
Crawford County has completed its tax deed proceedings on real estate properties that were delinquent for 2014 and mobile homes that were delinquent for 2015 and prior real estate taxes. The county is offering the parcels and mobile homes to the public.
A total of 19 real estate items and 43 mobile homes will be offered in a sealed bid auction sale. The number of real estate parcels is up from seven in 2017, while the number of mobile homes has increased from 37.
All bids must be in the Crawford County Treasurer's Office no later than the close of business Friday, Oct. 19.
The required minimum bid on real estate is $824 on real estate and $845 on mobile homes. These items will be sold to the highest bidder.
Complete bidder's packets and sale catalogs are available in the treasurer's office, 100 Douglas, Robinson, or on line at www.iltaxsale.com.
The sale places the real estate properties and mobile homes into the hands of individuals who have an interest in owning them. County officials hope the new owners will both maintain the properties and keep the taxes paid.
By eliminating abandoned properties, the appearance of the neighborhoods should improve and the value of adjoining properties should increase.
