Construction Career Day 2018 will be Friday at the SENCO corporate office at 1408 S. Eaton in Robinson.
The event is sponsored by SENCO and Lytle Electric in conjunction with Twin Rivers Career and Technical Education System and Crawford County Development Association.
Juniors and seniors from construction trades classes of Hutsonville, Robinson, Palestine, Oblong, Red Hill and Marshall high schools will participate. Chad Brown, SENCO owner, and Mac Thacker, Lytle's site manager, will welcome the students with opening comments.
Students will then begin their day of presentations and hands-on training, with a break for lunch provided by the sponsors and prepared by First Robinson Savings Bank.
Presenters for the day will include Thacker and Ryan Hughes with Lytle Electric and IBEW Local 725 JATC, who will demonstrate electrical installations. Bill Sharp with Operators Union Local 841 is demonstrating the importance of math in calculating loads when using a crane provided by SENCO. Reno Bemont and Jackson Hemrich with Lincoln Trail College will give a hands-on demonstration of welding and its application. Nick Martin of SENCO will present on safety education and curriculum. Aaron Ikemire with Global Scaffolding will demonstrate building and uses of scaffolding. Joe Davis with the Laborers Apprenticeship and Chris Barker with Southern and Central Illinois Laborers-LECET, will demonstrate the use of GPS and chip hammer. J.D. Smothers and Megan Knoll with Gribbins Insulation will discuss the application process and membership benefits of the insulators' union.
Construction Career Day is planned each fall for interested juniors and seniors from local schools.
The event committee consists of Chad and Michele Brown, SENCO owners; , Mandy Hale, executive assistant, SENCO; Mac Thacker, site manager, Lytle Electric; Troy Hickey, director of Twin Rivers CTE System; Susan Stout, Twin Rivers CTE System; and Erin Volk, coordinator of advisement, Lincoln Trail College.
