Area criminals get prison for drugs, theft, other charges
Several area people were sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections Wednesday in Lawrence Circuit Court for a variety of crimes.

Michael B. Chappell, 21, Lawrenceville, and Jared D. Deckard, 25, Bridgeport, were among those sentenced.

Chappell was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of theft, a Class 4 felony, according to Lawrence County State's Attorney Michael M. Strange.

Chappell had previously pleaded guilty on the charge. His sentence will be followed by a year of mandatory supervised release and he is required to pay court costs. 

Deckard was sentenced on two charges, according to Strange. He pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, both of which are Class 4 felonies. In exchange for his pleas, Deckard was sentenced to three years in prison, followed by a year of mandatory supervised release on each charge.

Deckard will also be required to pay court costs, as well as a $500 drug assessment fee.

Strange notes that the two sentences will run concurrently.

  Also:

• Justin Reynolds, 37, Newton, pleaded guilty to a charge of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and was sentenced to five years in the IDOC, in exchange for a plea. He was also sentenced to a two-year term on a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

The prison term for Reynolds will be followed by two years of mandatory supervised release on the burglary charge and a year of mandatory supervised rele ase on the drug charge.

He will be required to pay court costs as well as a mandatory $500 drug assessment fee.

• Herbert W. Andrews, 39, West Liberty, pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary, a Class 2 felony, and in exchange for his play was sentenced to three years in the IDOC, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release. Additionally, Andrews will be required to pay court costs.

• Jackie A. Mowrer, 63, Olney, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony.  

In exchange for her plea, Mowrer was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by a year mandatory supervised release.  She is also required to pay court costs and a $500 drug assessment fee.
